Diagnostics on Saint Catherine Polyptych by Simone Martini, at National Museum of Saint Matthew, Pisa

Art-Test together with National Museum of Saint Matthew, Pisa, and ScanSystems started a diagnostic campaign on the large polyptych realized by Simone Martini, for the Saint Catherine church of Pisa, between 1319-1322.

In the first phase, a high resolution scanning system IR reflectography has been realized on 4 of the 7 panels composing the masterpiece. Multispectral UV fluorescence and multispectral color acquisitions have also been carried out on some relevant areas. A 3D model of the same panels investigated by reflectographic analyse, has been realized by ScanSystems with a fringe projection device.

The results, which have been preliminarily presented at Restaura 2006 Fair, will be discussed in a dedicated workshop next spring at Polo Tecnologico di Navacchio.
