Scientific investigation on Mourning of Dead Christ, by Giovanni Bellini

On the occasion of the exhibition on Giovanni Bellini, in Rome, Art-Test, in close collaboration with the restorer Lisa Venerosi Pesciolini, completed a diagnostic campaign on the painting, “Mourning on Dead Christ” belonging to the Uffizi Gallery. The campaign was conducted using the most advanced technologies for art diagnostics: IR scanner multilayer, multispectral IR, xrf, but also state of the art technical analyses like pyrolysis/gas chromatography coupled to the mass spectrometry. The diagnostic results have contributed with decisive assessments on the long disputed nature of the painting (the question for long being: is it an unfinished or a monochrom painting?) Lisa Venerosi Pesciolini with Anna Pelagotti presented the results during the workshop on the restorations which took place at Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome
